Denise Park became Chief Executive at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council on the April 30 2019.
It was an especially poignant milestone for Denise as it also marked her 21st anniversary of working for the authority, starting on April 30 1998 as a Principal accountant, balancing the books in social services whilst working with her predecessor Harry Catherall.
She has over 25 years’ local government experience, training as an accountant with Lancashire County Council before joining BwD when it became a new unitary authority in April 1998.
Denise has been instrumental in presenting the authority’s submission to be win the coveted Municipal Journal Local Authority of the Year Award in 2018.
Denise graduated at Durham University in 1992 studying Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computing before being appointed Graduate Trainee accountant at Lancashire County Council in the same year.
Denise is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).
She is key member of the HIVE business network and has been responsible for driving forward the vision for the future of Blackburn with Darwen and how both the public and private sector can work together to create a stronger, brighter future for the area.
