Selective licensing

The Council manages the selective licensing scheme in the infirmary area (infirmary selective licensing area).

On submission of a complete application, the Council will issue a licence, inspect the property and liaise with the licence holder if made aware of anti-social behaviour that involves the tenants.

The Council may either prosecute or issue a civil penalty to licence holders who fail to meet any condition of the licence, or to any person who lets a property and fails to have a licence where they are not exempt.

Civil penalties are up to £30,000.00. Current fines on prosecution are a maximum of £5,000.00 for a breach of a licence condition or an unlimited fine (previously £20,000.00) for failure to have a licence.

The Council may also apply for a 12 month rent repayment order and a banning order preventing you from letting housing in England.
