Coronavirus: important information for registering a death/still-birth
Due to the current situation, it is not possible to book an appointment to register a death in person. Instead, death/stillbirth registrations will be carried out by telephone.
This applies to the registration of all deaths/stillbirths, including those where coronavirus is not the cause. Please do not attend the registration office in person.
GP surgeries, hospitals or hospices will now send us an electronic copy of the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD), along with your contact details.
Please wait for a registrar to contact you to make arrangements to register the death/stillbirth. We are working to complete registrations as quickly as possible; however, there may be some delays due to the current circumstances. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause
Although it is generally preferable for a family member to register the death, if they are unable to do it over the telephone, they can appoint their funeral director to register the death instead. In these cases, the funeral director must be able to provide all of the personal details relating to the deceased required for the registration.
