You can request a copy of your birth certificate online.
There are 2 types of birth certificates:
- a short certificate (which shows only the name and surname, sex, date of birth and district of birth)
- a standard certificate (which is a full copy of the birth entry including particulars of parentage and registration)
Please note, that a standard (full) birth certificate is required to obtain a passport, for anyone born after 31 December 1982.
To obtain a certificate you will need to provide us with the following information:
- date of birth

If you cannot provide some of the above information, then please contact the General Register Office.
